Lomaiviti Group Islands
With its mellow and unhurried pace of life, the Lomaiviti Group is a fabulous escape. Besides visiting the main island of Ovalau, there are a number of other islands in this group that are also worth seeing. A few of these islands also have their own exclusive resorts, which provide you with top notch accommodations and plenty of activities to enjoy.
Yanuca Lailai
Located close to Levuka, Yanuca Lailai is a tiny uninhabited island with a beautiful golden sandy beach. While the rest of the island is quite rocky, the beach here allows for some good snorkeling opportunities.
Moturiki
Lying southwest of Ovalau, Moturiki is a lush island, with 10 villages located here. Though there are no accommodations on the island itself, it is a lovely place to spend an afternoon.
Caqelai
A tiny coral island, Caqelai is a picture perfect paradise with its palm fringed white sand beach and azure waters. An idyllic place to spend a few days, you can stay at the Caqelai Resort found here, which offers a secluded escape with just the basic hotel facilities. The bure are located at the water’s edge and the staff is here is very friendly and accommodating. Snorkeling and diving tours are available here.
Leleuvia
Leleuvia is another beautiful tiny coral island, which offers some good diving and snorkeling. You can stay at the Leleuvia Island Resort out here, which offers some fine accommodations. Nautilus Dive Fiji, a top dive operator in the area is also based here and provides some excellent snorkeling and diving tours throughout the Lomaiviti Group.
Wakaya
Wakaya is a privately owned island with its own exclusive resort. Located 20 km east of Ovalau, this island is gorgeous with stunning beaches and archaeological sites. Extremely pricey, you need an invite if you wish to visit here.
Koro
Koro is quite a large island, with its own airstrip. You can find a number of villages here amidst the lush forestation as well as some great diving, swimming and snorkeling opportunities at Dere Bay. The Koro Beach Resort and the Dere Bay Resort are the only two hotels on the island and offer some excellent facilities. Air Fiji flies to Koro from Suva oncea week every Saturday.
Naigani
Also known as Mystery Island, Naigani is around 10 km from Ovalau. Home to the outstanding Naigani Island Resort, this island also has cannibal caves, where long ago local villagers were slaughtered and killed. The Naigani Island Resort has 17 attractive villas to stay at.
Namenalala
With some stunning beaches, Namenalala Island is home to the upscale Moody’s Namena resort. For couples only, this resort offers some amazing diving with plenty of beach activities to enjoy as well ranging from windsurfing to paddle boating.
