Rukuruku, Ovalau
A tiny village some 17 km north of Levuka, Rukuruku is a wonderful place to visit. Located near the Clifton and Shell Reefs, this village offers some stunning views of the ocean as you drive by. Located near a lovely black sand beach, you can even see Naigani Island from here. There is also a small waterfall found nearby as well, some 20 minutes away.
One of the best reasons to visit Rukuruku is to stay at Bobo’s Farm. A fantastic retreat, this farm is encircled by a stunning garden and lush rainforest. Providing you with plenty of privacy, Bobo’s Farm is a peaceful retreat for the weary traveler. Built from scratch by Bobo himself, you can rent the two bedroom cabin here for as long as you like. The cabin comes with an attached kitchen which you can use to cook your own meals. However, Bobo offers breakfast, lunch and dinner as well for an extra fee. Lots of fruit trees grow on the farm, and a freshwater stream can be found here as well from which you can catch prawns. In the evening many locals gather at Bobo’s main house to drink kava and sing.
Bobo also organizes his own island tours as well as arranges snorkeling trips, village visits, fishing trips and island hopping adventures. You need to book your stay ahead of time, which can be done through Whale’s Tale restaurant and the Ovalau Watersports in Levuka. If you like Bobo can pick you up directly from the airport or from wherever you are staying.
