Things to do in Levuka, Ovalau
Laidback and tranquil, Levuka is a small pretty town with a unique charm of its own. There are plenty of things to do in Levuka depending on what your interests are. For those looking for a quiet vacation, this sleepy town is the perfect spot to kickback and enjoy the gorgeous surrounding scenery, while if you are looking for something to do, cycling and diving are two of the most popular activities out here.
You can rent a bicycle in town and explore Levuka and its immediate areas within a few hours. Head south out of town were the terrain is relatively flat and even, if you go north the road is fine until Vatukalo, after which it becomes quite hilly. For the more adventurous, mountain bikes are available for hire at Inn’s Boutique Fashion Wear and Ovalau Watersports in town for around $ 15 for the entire day. Head out past Vatukalo to enjoy some serious biking.
Ovalau Watersports offers some excellent snorkeling and scuba diving tours off Levuka.
The waters of the Lomaiviti Group are ideal to snorkel and dive in, with a number of excellent dive spots as well as a plethora of marine life to enjoy. Manta rays, lion fish, marine turtles, hammerhead sharks and reef sharks can all be found here swimming amidst brightly colored tropical fish. You can also catch a glimpse of many colorful hard and soft corals along the coast as well. Dive trips cost around $500, while snorkeling trips are much cheaper at $50 per person.
You can also take a couple of tours from Levuka around Ovalau. Epi’s Tour takes you through the rainforest on the island, right into the crater of an extinct volcano.
