Getting to & Around in Mamanuca
Easily visible from the western coast of Viti Levu, the gorgeous Mamanuca Group of Islands is a tourist haven. The palm fringed beaches here are picture perfect and with plenty of water sports and activities to enjoy, these islands attract visitors from all over the globe. With its close proximity to Viti Levu, getting to the Mamanuca Group is quite easy. Most tourists catch a boat or catamaran to get here either from Nadi or Lautoka.
The Tiger IV or Island Express and the Malolo Cat, both of which are fast catamarans, usually carry passengers to the Mamanuca Group. Quick and efficient, it takes roughly an hour to get to any of the islands. The Tiger IV leaves from the Denarau Marina in Nadi and visits most of the Mamanuca Group. It costs $60 one way to Malolo, Mana and Castaway Islands; $40 to Bounty Island; $50 to Treasure Island and $30 to South Sea Island. If you are island hopping, it costs $40 between islands. If you are thinking of traveling by the Tiger IV, please call and reconfirm the above mentioned fares.
The Malolo Cat travels between the Denarau Marina and Malololailai three times a day, the journey is about 50 minutes. South Sea Cruises and Beachcomber Cruises also have fast catamarans to the major resort islands. If you have time on your hands, enjoy a leisurely yacht or day cruise to your destination, visiting the other Mamanuca islands along your way. You can hire a yacht at the Musket Cove Marina on Malololailai.
For those who want to avoid flying, you can get to the Mamanucas by light plane as well. The ticket is not that expensive and you get a scenic view of the islands below as you fly overhead. The journey is much quicker as well. Both Sun Air and Air Fiji have daily flights from Nadi to Mana and Malololailai. Turtle Airways, which has seaplanes, also flies to most of the Mamanuca resorts, however it is quite expensive. You can also reach your island resort by helicopter as well. Island Hoppers will take you to whichever island you want to visit, but for a considerable price.
To get around the Mamanucas, most of the islands are connected by boat.
