Mamanuca Group Islands
The Mamanuca Group is made up of 20 or so small islands and is a fantastic vacation destination. Very scenic, these islands have some of the most stunning beaches in the world. One of the main attractions of coming to Fiji, visiting the Mamanuca Group is a must. While most of these islands are volcanic in nature, a few of the islands are coral. The largest of the Mamanucas islands are Mana, Malolo and Malololailai, the latter being the tourist hub of this island group. Most of the Mamanuca islands are home to a single resort.
Bounty Island
Also known as Kadavu, Bounty Island is just 20 hectares. Located close to Viti Levu, much of the island’s interior is lush and green and plays host to some of Fiji endangered bird species, the rare Fiji crested iguana and is the nesting ground for hawksbill turtles. The Bounty Island Sanctuary Resort is found on this island.
South Sea Island
South Sea Island is situated southeast of Bounty Island. A small sandy isle, you can find the South Sea Island resort out here. Set up by the South Sea Cruises, this island is often used as a stopover for people traveling to the Yasawa Group.
Beachcomber Island
The popular Beachcomber Island is home to the famous Beachcomber Island Resort. One of the best places to party in the Mamanucas, this island sits some 20 km from Nadi Airport. The resort covers most of the island, which is roughly 2 hectares. Subsurface, a first-rate diving operation is also based here.
Treasure Island
Located northwest of Nadi Airport and close to Beachcomber Island is Treasure Island. You can find the Treasure Island Resort on this small 6 hectare coral isle..
Navini
Centrally located in the Mamanuca Group, Navini is a small coral isle. Home to the Navini Island Resort, the snorkeling off this island is great as an offshore reef is situated here.
Mana
Some 30 km northwest of Denarau, Mana is a beautiful island. Offering some wonderful snorkeling with an extensive coral reef, three resorts can be found here. The Mana Island Resort is a large luxury resort, while the Ratu Kini Boko’s Village Resort and the Mereani Vata Backpacker’s Inn provide great budget accommodations.
Matamanoa
The Matamanoa Island Resort can be found on Matamanoa. Located just north of Mana, this island is small and hilly.
Tokoriki
With its stunning white sandy beach Tokoriki is home to the Tokoriki Island Resort. For couples only, this island is located on the northern edge of the Mamanuca Group and has a tranquil secluded feel to it.
Vomo
With its excellent beaches and wonderful snorkeling and diving, Vomo is a beautiful 90 hectare island. You can find the luxurious Vomo Island Resort here with its own golf course.
Castaway Island
Some 26 km west of Denarau is Castaway Island. Surrounded by a coral reef, on this 70 hectare island is the popular Castaway Island Resort.
Malolo
The largest island of the Mamanuca Group, Malolo is home to mangrove and coastal forests, two villages, the Lako Mai Timeshare and the Malolo Island Resort. Offering some panoramic views of the neighboring islands including the southern Yasawas, the highest point on Malolo is Uluisolo, which was used as an observation point by the Americans in 1942.
Wadigi
Just 1.2 hectares, Wadigi is a privately owned island that sits west of Malolo. Here you will find the Wadigi Island Resort, which usually caters to honeymooning couples, as children under 12 are not allowed.
Malololailai
The second largest of the Mamanuca Islands, Malololailai is 2.4 sq km in size. Located 20 km west of Denarau, two resorts and an airstrip are based on the island. You can also find a timeshare resort out here as well as the Musket Cove Marina, which has a dive shop, grocery store, café, bar, restaurant and a gift shop. The Plantation Island Resort and the Musket Cove Resort can be found on Malololailai.
Namotu
Home to the Namotu Island Resort, Namotu is just 1.5 hectares. Located near Tavarua, this island is known for the excellent surf breaks nearby.
Tavarua
Located on the southern end of the Malolo Barrier Reef, Tavarua is a tiny coral island. The beaches here are beautiful, with some top notch surfing and diving. Home to the Tavarua Island Resort, Tavarua is just 12 hectares.
