Southern Taveuni
The snorkeling and diving in Southern Taveuni is excellent with the Vuna Reef located here. A truly superb dive spot, the Vuna Reef is home to a plethora of dazzling tropical fish and many varieties of hard and soft corals. As you dive past schools of barracudas, if you’re lucky, you may even come face to face with a pilot whale as you swim here. With ideal dive conditions most of the year, diving in the Vuna Reef is a real adventure. The snorkeling here is also incredible with moray eels, vibrant corals and lion fish found just offshore.
Another tourist attraction in Southern Taveuni is the Warrior Burial Cave, near Taveuni Estates. Used in ancient times as a hidden cemetery for warriors so their enemies would not know that they have died, this cave is definitely worth seeing. Vatuwiri Farm at Vuna Point is another popular place of interest. One of the largest copra farms in Taveuni today, the farm has some interesting old stone buildings to look at.
For a really dramatic attraction visit the Blow Hole on the South Cape. A fantastic sight, watch as the water jumps up though the volcanic rock, to create beautiful rainbows in mid-air. The best time to visit the Blow Hole is when the tide is low.
A more secluded part of Taveuni, there are quite a few places to stay at out here. Set amidst beautiful locations, most of the resorts in this area offer a tranquil getaway and laidback ambiance. Taveuni Estates is an excellent luxury development in Southern Taveuni and among its many facilities you will find a pool, golf course and tennis court.
Places to Stay at Sourther Taveuni For some more affordable accommodations the Dolphin Bay Divers’ Retreat has dorm style rooms as well as private room for rent, while if you are looking for a more unique getaway, stay at the Vatuwiri Farm Resort, which offers its guests the chance to experience life on a copra plantation.
