Viti Levu Accommodations

Viti Levu - resorts The largest of Fiji’s islands, Viti Levu is a wonderful place to spend a few days before you go on to explore the rest of Fiji. Home to over 75% of the country’s population, this island has many interesting and worthwhile places to visit and activities to enjoy. For the busy tourist, Viti Levu is also a great place to use as a base camp while you discover all that this tropical paradise has to offer.

Accommodations are aplenty in Viti Levu with three of Fiji’s main cities found here, including the capital, Suva. Nadi is the main entry point into Fiji and has a plethora of hotels to stay at, ranging from the cheap and economical to the luxurious and expensive. Most of Nadi’s hotels can be found along the Main Street in downtown Nadi, which provides easy access to many restaurants and shopping areas. For a more tranquil retreat in the Nadi area, New Town and Wailoaloa Beaches are a good option. Queesn Road also has some good lodging options as well. There are also a number of mid-range and budget hotels along the road between the airport and Nadi, which are great if you only want to spend a few hours in the city. If you wish to stay at a luxury resort, head to Denarau Island, where three Sheraton hotels can be found. Trendwest, an up-market timeshare resort is also located here.

To stay at a beach resort, head south of Nadi along the Coral Coast, where you can find a plethora of hotels either side of Sigatoka. The most exclusive resort in this area is the Natadola Beach Resort, which sits on Natadola Beach, an hour’s drive from Nadi. For couples only, this resort is cozy and intimate. Beyond Sigatoka, you will find a number of resorts as well, which are great for families on vacation. There are a few restaurants in the area also; making this region is a great getaway from the buzz of Nadi.

East of Korolevu is an excellent backpacker resort, the Beachouse, which lets you explore mainland Viti Levu. However, if you are only interested in staying at the beach, head further along Queens Road to the Pacific Harbour area. With a large ex-pat community, there are a number of resorts here as well as restaurants and a championship golf course.

From here, the capital, Suva is a short ride away. A cosmopolitan city, Suva has some good accommodations and budget range hotels and hostels. Ideal for business people, Suva is a nice place to spend a couple of days as your explore the city. From Suva, head up to the North Coast via Kings Road, also referred to as the Sunshine Coast by the locals. Dry and sunny, this region is very scenic; however, the accommodations here are few and far between. Mostly dominated by sugarcane plantations, there is very little to do out here besides going to the beach.

While on the North Coast, don’t forget to visit the tiny offshore island of Nananu-i-Ra. With excellent beaches and some superb scuba diving, Nananu-i-Ra has only a few resorts to stay at, so if you want to spend a few days here, do make a reservation in advance.

Lautoka sits just north of Nadi and is the largest city after Suva on Viti Levu. A quiet waterfront town, there are only a handful of hotels out here. Most people who visit Lautoka do so to head inland to explore Viti Levu’s highland area.
