Around Nadi
Once you have explored the main Nadi area, there are plenty of places outside the city that make for excellent day trips. While Nadi itself is lively and bustling, the area around Nadi is generally peaceful and quiet, offering tourists with a great alternative to escape the city life.
Just outside of Nadi sits the Sabeto Mountain Range. Here at the foothills of Sabeto, you can find the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, one of Nadi’s most popular tourist attractions. Open Mondays through Saturdays, this garden is a relaxing place to have a picnic as you spend your time wandering through the beautiful orchid displays and lily ponds found here. Roughly 6 km north of Nadi Airport, this 50-acre orchid garden, once owned by Raymond Burr, is a beautiful place to explore.
Around 12 km north of Nadi Airport along Queens Road is the village of Viseisei. A typical Fijian village, according to legend, the first Fijians were said to have settled here. A wonderful place to tour, at Viseisei gives you the chance to see how local Fijians live and go about their daily lives. There is a small handicraft shop here, where you can buy some traditional craft items.
A kilometer further north of Viseisei is Vuda Point. You can find a couple of resorts out here as well as a marina. The First Landing Resort and the Anchorage Beach Resort offer some wonderful views of the Mamanuca Island Group in the distance. Ideal places to stay at if you want some peace and quiet, unfortunately there is not much to do around here. Both these resorts are around a 15-minute drive from the airport.
If you are an avid surfer, head southwest of Nadi some 18 km to the Uciwai Landing. Mostly used to by surfers to access the Mamanuca breaks, there is a surf and dive camp in the area as well. The Rendezvous Beach Resort offers simple accommodations and meals, with guided surf and dive trips.
To enjoy a fun family resort vacation, you can also head out to Naisali Island, some 300 meters off the mainland. Situated 12 km southwest of Nadi, this 42-hectare island is home to the Sonaisali Island Resort. You can rent some traditional bure or thatched huts out here, which come in a packaged deal with lunch and dinner options.
Also close to Nadi is Lautoka, the second largest city on Viti Levu. A quiet town and a great base to use while you visit the Mamanucas and Yasawas, Lautoka has no real tourist attractions, except for the Koroyanitu National Heritage Park nearby. There are only a few accommodations in town and some inexpensive eateries.
