Kings Road – Korovou
A wonderfully scenic road to drive on, Kings Road offers some beautiful sights along the way as you travel the north eastern coast of Viti Levu from Suva to Lautoka. On your way, you will come across the town of Korovou, which sits some 50 km north of Suva. A small village, which acts as a center for the dairy industry in Fiji, Korovou has no real tourist attractions, with just a few shops and a post office located here.
The Tailevu Hotel is located on a hill overlooking town and is a great budget accommodation to stay at. A family room here can sleep five people, with individual cottages for rent as well. There is a restaurant on the hotel premises, which turns into a local nightclub on Fridays and Saturdays. While you are here, you can also visit the Wailotua Snake God Cave, which sits some 23 km west of Korovou. An interesting place to visit, there are many legends associated with this cave, which has a stalactite formation known as the six-headed snake.
As you go from Korovou to Rakiraki, you will pass through
the island’s dairy farming region with many quaint sleepy villages along the way. About 14 km from Korovou along Kings Road, you will come to the beautiful Uru’s Waterfall. This is a great place to stopover, stretch you legs and enjoy the peace and quiet around you.
