Kings Road – Nausori

Kings Road Nasouri - Fiji Kings Road runs all the way from Suva to Lautoka, along the eastern and northern edges of Viti Levu. Around 265 km long, this road connects these two main cities for easy and convenient access to towns and villages along the way, the route offers some beautiful and scenic sights.

Kings Road connects Suva to Nausori and the Rewa Delta. Some 19 km from Suva, Nausori is home to the Nausori International Airport and is a small township that is mostly used as a transport hub by many agricultural and industrial workers. There are a few banks and restaurants in this busy bustling town. Kings Road from Suva to Nausori is the busiest highway in Fiji, and you can often get caught in traffic jams, if you are travel during peak traffic hours.

Near Nausori is the Nasilai Village and a Catholic mission. This village is a very popular side trip from Suva as many tourists and locals as well come here to buy pottery from here. Home to one of Fiji’s most famous potters Taraivini Wati, you can buy various pots and other items from here that are made using traditional pottery making techniques. Pottery is a major income source for the entire village, whose residents all help Taraivini Wati make pots. Wilderness adventures are also organized in this part of the Rewa Delta.

From Nausori you can also visit the tiny island of Bau. However, to get there you will need special permission from the Ministry of Fijian Affairs. What makes this tiny isle so important is that it was once the power base for King Cakobau and his father Tanoa. Today, there are a number of interesting places worth seeing here including a chief cemetery, a sacrificial killing stone and an old church.

Near Bau is the Toberua Island Resort on the tiny isle of Toberua. Originally built as a hideaway, today this resort is an excellent place to getaway from the crowds. The beach here is ideal for snorkeling and paddle boating and is also used to play a game of beach golf.
