Nadi
The third largest city in Fiji, Nadi is the main point of entry into the country. The tourism hub as well, Nadi lies in the northwest of Viti Levu, some 9 km from the Nadi International Airport. A great base to use while exploring the rest of Fiji, there are plenty of accommodations and lodgings found here, ranging from budget hotels to the more upscale luxury resorts. North of Nadi sits the scenic Sabeto Mountain Range, while if you head inland to the east, you will find the Nausori Highlands.
A bustling and burgeoning city with a population of over 30,000 people, Nadi offers tourists all the conveniences and amenities of modern life. Restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping centers, malls, cinemas, nightlife and sightseeing, Nadi has it all. The Main Street in town is where everything happens and is jam packed with from eateries and cafes to markets and souvenir shops. At the end of Main Street sits the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple on the Nadi Back Road. The city’s most popular attraction, this colorful and majestic temple is well worth a visit. The largest Hindu temple in the Southern Hemisphere, millions of pilgrims visit the Swami Temple every year. A predominantly Indo-Fijian town, Nadi is a center for Hinduism and Islam in Fiji.
The market, the bus station, the hospital and the post office all lie in downtown Nadi, east of Main Street. If you head north of the downtown area along Narewa Road, you will reach Denarau Island, home to Nadi’s most luxurious resorts. Three Sheraton resorts sit here along with a golf course and a marina on the island a well. From this marina, most tours to the Yasawas and Mamanucas islands begin. Connected to the mainland by a bridge, it is a 5-minute drive to Denarau Island from the downtown area. Mangroves also grow around this island as well near the Nadi River making it an excellent place to explore by boat. For a thrilling adventure, take a ShotoverJet ride around here for a hair-raising experience.
When in Nadi, take a day trip to the nearby Koroyanitu National Park, which offers some great hikes and amazing vistas. A trip to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant is another popular activity to enjoy while you are here, as this garden has some beautiful ornamental orchids on display.
