Nananu-i-Ra
A tiny island of just 3.5 sq km, Nananu-i-Ra is wonderful getaway for those who live on Viti Levu. A gorgeous destination to go diving, snorkeling and windsurfing in, Nananu-i-Ra has several lovely white sand beaches to chill out and relax on. Just 3 km from Ellington Wharf, there are no villages on the island and just five resorts to stay at.
Diving & Surfing
The diving and snorkeling off Nananu-i-Ra is wonderful with plenty of fish and coral to see. However, on the north coast of the island watch out for sea snakes. You can even go snorkeling to the outer surrounding reefs here especially Bligh Water, which sites to the north of the island and has some amazing dive destinations. Ra Divers and Crystal Divers are two dive operators based on Nananu-i-Ra.
Windsurfing
During the dry season when the trade winds blow here, this island is a great place to come windsurfing. Particularly from June to August, weather conditions are perfect here with the winds blowing around 10 knots every day. If you plan on visiting the island around this time, it would be a good idea to make a hotel reservation in advance, as many people come here for a short holiday.
Places To Stay in Nananu-i-Ra
In total, there are five accommodations on Nananu-i-Ra; four of them are budget hotels, while one is an up market resort. McDonald’s Nananu Beach Cottages, Betham’s Beach Cottages, Charlie’s Place and Nananu Lodge, are all inexpensive places to stay at and offer good accommodations and services. All located near one another, except Nananu Lodge, they are a good bargain. Nananu Lodge lies on the northwest part of the island.
Mokusigas Resort is relatively pricier than the other four hotels, with some wonderful views of the island. The room prices here include breakfast and transfers, with plenty of activities to enjoy such as windsurfing, canoeing, snorkeling, tennis, fishing and diving.
